I have removed the issue my webhost had with the website – there were way too many spambots coming over and using the same file to post spam, which resulted in that file being flagged as a “major resource consuming script”. Well, now I’m using some cookie magic coupled with some .htaccess rules to prevent that from happening.

As to why it took me so long to fix that, I really didn’t have much to talk about. I am pretty busy with my academic life at the moment.

Also, I will probably be sorting the posts from the “Old Blogs” into various categories as appropriate. Since there are so many posts I need to take a look at and I would like to do it all together, it will have to wait until I have a large chunk of time to devote to it.

So yeah, I’m back, and at least now you can browse through the archives, even if I’m not posting too frequently.

Have fun. :)

Under Construction notice at Code Ledger

During these past few days, I’ve been facing a new dilemma – choosing a domain name for a website where I can showcase my code and talk about algorithms and arithmetic. Despite owning a beautiful blog such as this, I feel that it wouldn’t really be very useful on my resume. After all, prospective employers would rather see my code than read my personal journal – or so I hope.

Among the many names that came to mind were – notmysegfault (too unprofessional), almostcode (almost?) and compileandrun (taken). In fact, most of the names I could think of were taken. Frustrated by the fact that most of these domains had been snapped up by domain squatters who were using them for absolutely nothing, and inspired by the idea of having a code “journal”, I took the obvious next step – looking up synonyms for journal.

Thanks to my handy thesaurus, I finally found a decent domain name that wasn’t taken – http://www.codeledger.com. Of course, I wouldn’t have settled for it if it hadn’t been for the apparent fame of Web Design Ledger, which proved to me that people know how to spell ledger and even remember such names.

So, what will this website be about? As I said, algorithms and arithmetic, with a bit of software engineering for good measure. I will also put my resume up for download there, which means Code Ledger will mostly be about sharing knowledge with a small amount of self-marketing.

Needless to say, I’m hyped. And you should be, too!

Yes, it’s been a while since I actually blogged. I’m currently living with my parents in India for the summer, it gets pretty boring sometimes but on the whole it’s quite relaxing. It does feel like my time would have been better spent doing a co-op, but I’ll hopefully have enough time for that later.

I finally found a violin instructor, he’ll be coming over on Friday for the first lesson. Hopefully he’d know what he’s doing and I won’t have to look for another one. I should also probably brush up on my Japanese so that I don’t forget too much before going back to it this Fall. Probably <del datetime="2009-06-04T02:12:11+00:00">going</del> have to co-op this Winter if I want to stay on schedule.

Then there’s the issue Nicole has with one of the images I’ve been using. I got it off a stock image website, but it’s obviously hers, so I’ve stopped using it. Hopefully she doesn’t have a problem anymore, though it looks like removing the image didn’t quite work. I’ve replaced it with a different one now, instead of the temporary solution of simply removing it.

Oh, and I apologize about the non-existent contact form to everyone who tries to use it. I did try putting it up once, but PHP was angry and hated me for it. I will try again when I can muster the courage to face its wrath.

Among other things, and the stuff above, I’ve been trying to find a worthy summer programming project. I don’t really have any ideas so far, but hopefully it will be something awesome. That’s all for now, folks.

There was this blog, a simple affair,
whose author wrote with a singular flair;
with quite a few visits – two thousand and score.
(I’m quite bad at math, there might’ve been more)

But posts there were few, the content was scarce,
the timing was wrong, the posting was sparse.
Though, lo and behold, there were no complaints -
these visitors, I swear, were no less than saints.

“Good job!”, “Well done!”, the comments read,
you’d be quite surprised at what these people said.
Mistaken, I thought that my job here was done -
I packed up my stuff and then college begun.

One day, however, while browsing the net,
it hit me – quite hard – how could I forget?
My blog will die out if I do not post,
once weekly at least, twice daily, at most.

So here I am now, this week went by fast,
I hope you remember what I posted last.
I promise you’ll see some content pretty soon,
this blog will survive at least until June.

I have decided to do away with the past as preparation for the future. All posts that I made in the last two months have been removed as a result – the total number of posts was only eight, so this is by no means a significant loss. I do feel sorry that those posts had to go, but it was a necessary step to betterment.

You will notice that I have given a new layout to this blog – this one actually has a name. I would like to see if you can guess at the name I gave it, so feel free to do that in the comments. Many of you were fond of the last set of smilies – I regret to inform you that they have been replaced with a new set. Hopefully you will grow to like this one as well.

My posting frequency has had been on a steep decline for a while, and I will try to remedy that as best I can. I will be adding categories as I go along, to avoid limiting myself to a specific topic. The “submit ideas” form has been scrapped for now, and frankly I doubt I will be bringing it back soon. Sorry. :P

That’s all I have for now – and don’t forget to comment on the new theme!
