During these past few days, I’ve been facing a new dilemma – choosing a domain name for a website where I can showcase my code and talk about algorithms and arithmetic. Despite owning a beautiful blog such as this, I feel that it wouldn’t really be very useful on my resume. After all, prospective employers would rather see my code than read my personal journal – or so I hope.

Among the many names that came to mind were – notmysegfault (too unprofessional), almostcode (almost?) and compileandrun (taken). In fact, most of the names I could think of were taken. Frustrated by the fact that most of these domains had been snapped up by domain squatters who were using them for absolutely nothing, and inspired by the idea of having a code “journal”, I took the obvious next step – looking up synonyms for journal.

Thanks to my handy thesaurus, I finally found a decent domain name that wasn’t taken – http://www.codeledger.com. Of course, I wouldn’t have settled for it if it hadn’t been for the apparent fame of Web Design Ledger, which proved to me that people know how to spell ledger and even remember such names.

So, what will this website be about? As I said, algorithms and arithmetic, with a bit of software engineering for good measure. I will also put my resume up for download there, which means Code Ledger will mostly be about sharing knowledge with a small amount of self-marketing.

Needless to say, I’m hyped. And you should be, too!

I finally found a violin instructor, he’ll be coming over on Friday for the first lesson. Hopefully he’d know what he’s doing and I won’t have to look for another one. I should also probably brush up on my Japanese so that I don’t forget too much before going back to it this Fall. Probably going have to co-op this Winter if I want to stay on schedule.

Then there’s the issue Nicole has with one of the images I’ve been using. I got it off a stock image website, but it’s obviously hers, so I’ve stopped using it. Hopefully she doesn’t have a problem anymore, though it looks like removing the image didn’t quite work. I’ve replaced it with a different one now, instead of the temporary solution of simply removing it.

Oh, and I apologize about the non-existent contact form to everyone who tries to use it. I did try putting it up once, but PHP was angry and hated me for it. I will try again when I can muster the courage to face its wrath.

Among other things, and the stuff above, I’ve been trying to find a worthy summer programming project. I don’t really have any ideas so far, but hopefully it will be something awesome. That’s all for now, folks.

What the toolkit does is allow you to use Eclipse as an AJAX programming tool – in all honesty, you don’t even have to know anything about AJAX. All you need to know is how to code a Java application with Swing elements, then apply that knowledge to code a web application in an amazingly smooth transition. The toolkit will take all your code and compile it into functional HTML and Javascript with all the bells and whistles you would expect, along with the ability to provide your very own CSS files.

At the very least, this thing makes the creation of a web application much easier and much faster, even for the inexperienced web developer who only has Java programming knowledge. Google also says you won’t have to worry too much about working around the quirks of individual browsers, but it will take some rigorous testing before I come to believe that.

If you are a web developer, I suggest you check this out, you will not regret it.
