Yesterday, the second career fair of this academic year was held at RIT. It’s always pretty crowded, and was even more so this year due to the state of the economy. There weren’t any really big companies there – with the exception of Microsoft, which I didn’t bother applying to since their deadline for summer internships was already over.

I was quite well prepared for this one, and had researched most of the companies I was interested in. Unfortunately, hardly anyone is willing to hire international students, so my choices were limited to about ten companies. My conversations with most of the recruiters went well, though I was told to apply online on more than one occasion – which I understand is easier to manage, but the recruiter should at least talk to me! It makes me feel like I took the time to wear formal clothing and come over to meet you just so that I could send you an e-mail later.

To be honest, I wasn’t expecting to get a co-op just by being at the fair. I’ll probably follow up for some companies that I liked. Otherwise, I’ll have to find a co-op on my own, via other means. I’m probably going to hop on some job search sites and see what they’ve got, perhaps something that suits me will show up. In any case, I’m going home for the summer if I don’t get a job, which would be nice.
