The Google Web Toolkit

June 1st, 2009 / Old Blogs

I recently came across the Google Web Toolkit, and went ahead and downloaded it as a plugin for Eclipse. I’ve played around for a bit and my first impression remains unchanged – this is awesome.

What the toolkit does is allow you to use Eclipse as an AJAX programming tool – in all honesty, you don’t even have to know anything about AJAX. All you need to know is how to code a Java application with Swing elements, then apply that knowledge to code a web application in an amazingly smooth transition. The toolkit will take all your code and compile it into functional HTML and Javascript with all the bells and whistles you would expect, along with the ability to provide your very own CSS files.

At the very least, this thing makes the creation of a web application much easier and much faster, even for the inexperienced web developer who only has Java programming knowledge. Google also says you won’t have to worry too much about working around the quirks of individual browsers, but it will take some rigorous testing before I come to believe that.

If you are a web developer, I suggest you check this out, you will not regret it.

You know, using my work and then just delete my comment is pathetic (btw I hate writing comments to your blog about this, but you took down your contact form, so…). You can’t just take other people’s work and claim it’s yours, that’s lousy. There are so many free icons you can download if you don’t want to create your own. So why don’t you just take take mine down and use one of those?

Thanks for deleting my comment again :) which I know you will (I would do that, too), but maybe we can just get this out of the way before it will get ugly.

    Cheers,

Hey, I only deleted your comment after removing the content in question. I’m trying to do this with minimal changes in my template, so maybe I messed up and the CSS method only works for me or my browser or something. I’ll try removing it with PHP.

Also, please try clearing your cache and stuff.

I’m not as evil as you might think, I found your icon on some other website that claimed it was free, I’ll see if I can find that again and let you know.

Hey, ok, fair enough. I was just pissed you didn’t react, I hate being ignored. ;)
I know there are a lot of sites that published my wallpaper without asking me, so if you can find the link again, it would be great if you’d let me know. Thanks.
Btw the new birdie is cute, too and it fits to your comments icon. ;)

Yeah, and it changes moods + is free! Thanks for coming along and encouraging positive change.

I’ll try to find that site again, though I will probably end up finding some other one with the same wallpaper…
